The odds of an average golfer hitting a hole-in-one are estimated to be around 12,500 to 1.

My playing partner was playing his second day of golf after graduating from college a week prior, I was coaching and instructing his golf game. On the 5th hole, a 147 yds, par 3, I allowed him to tee first on all holes to eliminate any pressure and allow him to chose his own clubs. After he hit on #5, I explained that the pin was located dead center between two tall pine trees, and that should have been his aiming point. I placed my golf ball in position and without a practice swing, hit the shot, as it got airborne, my partner stated, 'it's going dead toward the flag'. Upon arrival to the green, 147 yds, the ball I hit was a ace. It went into the hole on the fly and was wedged between the flagstick and the turf it tore up on the edge of the cup as it fell into the hole. I've never witness a ace in person, and my partner witness one his second day playing.
