This actually occurrred in the early 80's so I hope I am not wasting your time here but I thought you might be interested in what happened. I was playing in a match against an army team, was 3 up at the time when we reached the 7th, a dog leg left par 4 with a tall stand of treesabout 200yards out stopping the straight shot accross the corner. I took advice from my opponent, then ignoring the safe route hit a high draw roun the trees. We were unable to see the ball land and after looking for the statutory 5 minutes gave the ball up for lost. I was 3 up, my opponent was in the middle of the fairway with a shot so I conceded the hole and we walked to the next tee. We both played our tee shots and I was about to play my chip to the green when a golfer burst out of the bushes next to me and asked if one of us had lost a ball on the previous hole to which I admitted I had. He asked what it was and I told him b51. Here it is then. Where was it I ask. In the hole was his reply. Stunned silence followed. Nor only had I had a hole in on measuring 365 yards... I had also managed to lose the hole. At the time it was recorded in the golfers hand book' as being the 3rd longest hole in one in the uk but no mention was made of the crazy circumstances. Hope I have not wasted your time, best regards, les.
