The odds of an average golfer hitting a hole-in-one are estimated to be around 12,500 to 1.
Even professional golfers only have about a 2,500 to 1 chance. This makes it a truly special and memorable accomplishment.

I was playing 'b' pennants at my home course and I was having a good battle with my opponent from kembla grange golf club, and after 11 holes it was all square until we walked onto the 12th tee. There was a fairly strong southerly at this time and standing on the elevated tee was a scary thought hitting in it. As it left the club I knew that I it was good and was calling for it to be the right club. I knew that it was going to be close and that was the aim being matchplay, until the ball pitched about 30cm from the hole, took one bounce and sucked back into the hole. My opponent screamed "it's in the hole" as he lept at me to give a high five as this was the first time he had seen a hole in one. I was that stocked that I couldn't wait to tell my team mate who was approaching the 11th hole, and before I knew it I had the pro and others in the club house coming out to congratulate me. It was more satisfying to win the matchplay and a releif in a way not to lose the game after getting the hole in one. It was even more satisfying sending my mates a sms message to get their response of disbelief.
