The sunday started like any other sunday. This would be my first sunday to take out the carts since jim garner, my golf partner of 14 years passed away. I had inherited the job to take out carts when jim became too ill to take the carts out any more about a year and a half ago. I always take the last cart to play a round of golf and noticed I had cart #13 which was jim's lucky number and birth date, and today also happened to be the 13th day of the month. It struck me a little unusual to say the least. I didn't make anything of it at the time. I began to play my normal round of golf. When I reached the 8th hole I remembered he had always told me, â"ryan, when I'm gone I will make sure to give you a hole in one. â". When I reached the 8th hole I held up my golf ball and said â"jim, this one's for youâ" - as I went to swing I could hear jim telling me, â"ryan, always take a second look at the flag. â" upon doing so I took a swing at the ball and instantly realized just how straight it was going. For the past 14 years jim has proclaimed to be my mentor and has taught me everything I know about golf. Could it be jim had really stuck to his word? Would this actually be a â"hole in one,â" on his favorite hole. As the ball landed it began rolling towards the flag. That's when I realized it had a chance to go into the hole. It was! It was a hole in one! Jim had always been the story teller of our group, for salinas for that matter. His stories were known to many on and off the golf course. In his own way he had passed the torch to make sure â"one more storyâ" would be told... In his honor and his memory. This is my second hole in one.
