A heavy west virginia rain shower had just slowed to a drizzle, and it was difficult to make out the green and the flag stick with the large pond that hugged the front of hole #2 about 170 yards away. All I wanted to do was hit the green and not come-up short and land in the damn pond because my playing partners had not hit the green with their respective tee shots, and our team needed a par on the hole to get back to even par for the round (west virginia wesleyan college homecoming 2007 best ball golf outing event). Using my maxfli blue max fairway 5 wood (that I had won as a grab-bag prize several weeks earlier at a charity golf outing in new jersey) I launched a high trajectory shot and watched and prayed that the ball had enough legs (given the damp and misty conditions) to make the green. Upon seeing my golf ball hit the green, bounce once, and then start to roll in the general direction of the flag stick I bent over and retrieved my tee and lost sight of the golf ball. My playing partners (aka "the witnesses"; jody eddins from huntington, wv and jerry wolfgang from greensburg, pa") are also my college fraternity brothers, and they both started jumping up and down and shouting that the ball had rolled into the cup for a hole-in-one. Never thinking that there was any chance in the world that the ball had found the cup, I assumed that my playing partners were just jerking my chain and I immediately assumed the flag stick was obstructing our view of my ball! Not until I actually arrived at the green and scanned the complete surface of the green and first cut of the rough for my golf ball, did I even contemplate approaching the cup, and when I finally went and looked there in the bottom of the cup was my titleist pro v1 golf ball smiling up at me!!! Picking the ball out of the cup with my two fingers I shouted as loud as I could muster -- "hole-in-one"!! What a great experience, my first hole-in-one, never saw the ball actually fall into the cup, and my witnesses were two of my college fraternity brothers both of which had never seen an actual hole-in-one before -- it does not get any better than this!!!
