The odds of an average golfer hitting a hole-in-one are estimated to be around 12,500 to 1.
Even professional golfers only have about a 2,500 to 1 chance. This makes it a truly special and memorable accomplishment.

Les, my father, was playing in a pro-am and happened to show the pro in his group how it was done - up in the air, over the creek, onto the green (sand green) and into the hole. Within minutes of him achieving the feat, everyone still on the course and in the clubhouse knew about it. It was tradition at our club to receive a bottle of scotch, and have your name included on the hole-in-one honour roll. Dad later had the ball mounted on a piece of timber and the ball actually sat on a tee. May I add that my mother had scored a hole in one on the same hole in 1969, anyway dad commented to her that he was as good as her now.
